Portland Winter Light Festival 2017!

I received an email yesterday from the folks over at the Portland Winter Light Festival.  The Festival held its inaugural annual event this past February, and it was incredible!  I was there both as a visitor and as a volunteer, and I can’t say enough great things about this event.  It was EXACTLY the boost of fun and energy I needed in the middle of an otherwise wet and dreary Portland winter.  It also holds a special place in the history of Portland Design Events as it was the first event we ever published!  At any rate, while we’re thinking about our late July heat wave, the good folks at PWLF have their thoughts on this coming February and Winter Light Festival 2017!  They need volunteers!  Full information in a transcript of the email from Michelle David follows below:

We’re in the middle of a perfectly Portland summer — that means it’s time to start thinking about next year’s festival! Mark February 1-4 2017 onto your calendar for another four days of illuminated winter fun in the heart of the city. The theme is “Between the River and the Stars”.

This year witnessed nearly two dozen artists and over 30,000 attendees lighting up Portland in the heart of winter. Now that we have the success and perspective of the inaugural festival under our belt, we’re excited to dream and build even bigger. That’s where you come in!

PWLF is seeking a core group of committed volunteers (anchors and leads) who are excited to help the festival improve and who want to get involved early on.

Areas needing anchors/leads include:

  • Wayfinding and crowd control
  • Greening and sustainability
  • Operations management
  • Community outreach
  • Performance coordination
  • Burn barrel and artwork monitoring
  • Media coordination and other marketing needs
  • And much, much much more.

Interested in pitching in? Just send an email over to volunteer@pdxwlf.com and let us know your passions and how you’d like to help. We’ll find a role for you.

But wait – there’s more! The Call for Artists, Designers, Creatives and Makers has been announced. Click here for more information — applications are due by September 1st!

Thanks for helping to make PWLF 2017 the best one yet!
