Architects Without Borders Volunteer Opportunity!
We’d like to pass along this exciting volunteer opportunity! Architects Without Borders – Oregon writes:
Architects Without Borders-Oregon is looking for volunteers to work on a park re-design in northeast Portland. King School near NE 7th & NE Alberta sits adjacent to a large park that has long been underutilized. Through an organization called Green King, neighbor Diego Gioseffi of the King Neighborhood Association has been spearheading an effort to improve this space.
Last year Green King secured a grant to transform two deteriorated tennis courts into a new tennis court and a new futsal court. The project will include new surfacing, re-striping, new lighting, and benches.
Green King is now looking to secure a grant that would help revitalize additional areas of the park.
The goal is to give Green King a site plan that will show the park’s potential in grant applications. In addition to a site plan there is also room to develop park elements such as gathering space structures, landscape features, or play equipment to bring the project to life even more.
Green King is looking to apply for a major grant in December so this is a fairly quick project.
The design team will be encouraged to give a design update at the AWB general meeting in October, and have final drawings done by the end of November or very beginning of December.
The design process will incorporate input from a wide range of perspectives. We hope to involve the local community, the neighborhood association, teachers/students from King Elementary, and possibly others.
If you’re interested in being involved, please join us for the initial design team meeting at the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN) offices adjacent to King Elementary. We’ll go over project background, discuss deliverables, and look at the timeline for the project. We’ll also take a walk around the site (adjacent to NECN).
Saturday, August 6
NECN Office – 4815 NE 7th Ave.
