2016 Portland Modern Home Tour – Request for Volunteers

The Architecture Foundation of Oregon (AFO) has recently joined forces with Modern Home Tours for the upcoming 5th annual Portland Modern Home Tour, which will take place on Saturday, June 4th.

AFO is looking for a number of volunteers to help them on the day of the tour. In particular, they need people to staff each of the eight amazing modern homes that will be opening their doors the day of the tour. This is light work that involves greeting tour-goers at the door with a smile, checking visitors in for the tour, and verifying visitors are official attendees. They expect some day-of ticket sales will also take place, but mostly during the morning shift. Other duties will include asking visitors to remove their shoes and/or providing protective shoe covers, politely enforcing a no food/drinks policy (as needed), and helping keep an eye on the property to make sure it is safe and secure. All duties will be explained during a brief training the morning of the tour.

The organization is looking for volunteers who can work half-day shifts, from 9:30am to 1:30pm and from 1:00pm to 5:30pm. The actual tour runs from 11:00 to 5:00; the extended time includes a morning meeting and an afternoon drop-off. It is important to have people stationed at the door of each home throughout the duration of the tour. While working in a home, volunteers will have the opportunity to meet the architect and mingle with the homeowner and guests. AFO is also looking for some additional help, as some homes may require extra coverage inside.

As a token of thanks, all volunteers will be able to visit the other properties on the tour for FREE when they are not working.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Portland Modern Home Tour on June 4th, please send an email to ken@modernhometours.com with the subject ‘Portland MHT Volunteer’. He will contact you soon with further details and info requests.
